Anton
Fuchs counts plasterer and cabinet-maker among the jobs he has
held.
He came in contact with Cologne´s art scene early on.
From 1980 to 1982 he attended
lectures on art and design at the city´s Fachhochschule
as well as at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf.
His first independent artworks were made at this time. The technique
he favors is paintend collage
and relief on
paper on canvas. Since 1987 he worked increasingly with materials
such as wax and steel.
Fuchs describes his artwork as follows: " My art has the
multiple potentialities of an invention created by my hand".
Stylistically, his art is situated between ZERO and OpArt, while
also being reminiscent of the light and shadow painting
of Art Informel. In recent years he has produced extensive series
of works and since 2004 has consistently used industrial
materials. His big brake came at the Kunst 04 fair in Zurich
with his series entitled Wax Still.
Fuchs´ cycle
Weißes Wachs im Metallkontrast from 2009 refers, both
in title and materiality ,
to another priority of his recent work. In these objects, technical
metal parts set in white wax are juxtaposed
to white wax. Grids of serially punches holes, serrated surfaces
made of nails, or networks of woven stainless
steel and wax are combined artistically with steel sections
to produce shimmering displays of light and shadow.
Anton Fuchs´work
is included in numerous German an international collections.
